Founded in 1845, the University of Galway has over 18,000 students and 2,000 staff, organised into 4 Colleges (Arts, Social Sciences & Celtic Studies; Science & Engineering; Business, Public Policy, and Law; Medicine, Nursing, and Health Sciences). The University has a fundamental role also in the support of the Irish language (Gaeilge) and operates a bilingual campus. It undertakes research across its full range of disciplines and has particularly strong links to the Medical Technology sector of which Galway is a major international hub.
